Design Specialist – Keen Building Company & KeenID

Location:

Charlotte, NC

Employment Type:

Full-Time, In-House

About Us

At Keen Building Company, we are more than a builder—we are creators of homes that stand as one-of-a-kind works of art. Based in Charlotte, NC, we self-develop and build over 30 unique homes each year, in addition to a diverse portfolio of custom homes and high-end remodels. Our projects consistently represent some of the largest and most luxurious residences in Charlotte and the surrounding region.

We also participate in unique commercial upfit and adaptive reuse projects.

What makes us unique is KeenID, our in-house interior design studio led by our team of talented builders. KeenID ensures that every home carries its own distinct identity—thoughtfully blending function, artistry, and lifestyle into every space. The name stands for both “Keen Interior Design” and “Key Interior Design,” a reflection of how central design is to every project we deliver.

Joining our team means gaining immediate access to design opportunities that most firms only dream of. Rather than waiting for clients to hire out design services, our in-house designers are woven directly into the fabric of every project. This role offers the chance to be expressive without limitations, guiding the interiors of multi-million-dollar homes with the creative freedom to make bold design decisions.

The

Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to shape the interior identity of some of the region’s most prestigious homes—projects of scale and magnitude that other designers would have to compete for just to be considered. By working internally with Keen’s builder and design teams, you’ll gain exposure to every detail of the building process, from schematic plans through the finishing touches. Here, design is not an afterthought—it is the foundation of our mission.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Interior Design and construction teams on luxury residential projects from concept through completion.
  • Lead and support client design meetings, capturing preferences and translating them into detailed design solutions.
  • Prepare and present mood boards, finish schedules, and material selections with confidence and creativity.
  • Source and specify fixtures, finishes, and furnishings (FF&E), building strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Produce CAD, Sketch Up, or other design drawings/renderings to communicate vision clearly.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure accuracy of orders, deliveries, and installations.
  • Maintain and organize design libraries, samples, and resources.
  • Conduct site visits to confirm that installations align with design intent and Keen’s quality standards.
  • Provide design and administrative support to KeenID leadership as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of professional design experience (luxury residential preferred).
  • Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
  • Strong creative vision with attention to detail, function, and timeless style.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and client-facing skills.
  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects and timelines.
  • Collaborative, motivated, and passionate about design innovation.
Why Join Us
  • Be at the center of Charlotte’s luxury custom home market.
  • Work with one of the Southeast’s most respected builders and design leaders.
  • Design without limits on projects that are immediately available to you—no pitching, no waiting.
  • Collaborate in a culture that values creativity, craftsmanship, and client satisfaction.
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and long-term growth opportunities.
