Campus Land Planner
Position Number: 010084
Employment Type: Permanent – Full‑time
Work Location: Facilities Management Building
Work Schedule: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday; occasional evening and weekend hours required. Telework available up to one day per week with supervisor approval.
Monthly Basis: 12 months per year, 40 hours per week
Summary of Responsibilities- Develop planning recommendations for campus development and campus‑level landscape architecture based on institutional priorities, coordinating with the Director of Planning, Design and Construction and other campus units.
- Ensure institutional planning objectives and strategies are incorporated into projects.
- Review the work of external planning consultants to ensure projects reflect the planning intent, university design and construction guidelines, standards, schedule, and budget.
- Review, update, and maintain university design and construction guidelines related to land planning.
- Prepare reports and presentations that identify issues and present options to inform university decision‑making.
- Provide information and recommendations on physical and comprehensive planning and design issues, large‑scale planning and sector studies, and special facilities planning topics.
- Manage requests for the development of campus outdoor spaces, soliciting input for the development of projects and ensuring plans comply with university objectives. Maintain working relationships with local city, county, and state government officials, University City Partners, and private developers on issues that affect campus development.
- Work as a contributing teammate in the Planning, Design, and Construction department to collaborate and provide expertise on a wide variety of departmental projects and plans.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, architecture, or engineering from an accredited institution plus two years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Preferred QualificationsEducation: Master’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, architecture, or engineering from an accredited institution along with five years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Certification: Licensed or able to obtain a license to practice landscape architecture by the North Carolina Board of Landscape Architects.
