The department serves a population exceeding one million residents and serves the City of Charlotte, six towns, and the unincorporated areas of the county covering 523 square miles. In addition, the department manages over 21,000 acres and 230+ parks, nature preserves, greenways and facilities. Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is excited to add a Construction Project Manager I to the team! This position will oversee and manage various construction projects across all trades at any of our Park & Recreation facilities and properties including our greenways. The incumbent will work closely with external vendors and contractors as well as with internal staff throughout the department during the planning, design and construction phases of designated projects.
Additionally, they will be responsible for coordinating various utilities (electrical, water, sewer, and other data points) for projects. The selected candidate will be a key member of our staff in ensuring that our facilities remain premier venues for visitors to live, work and recreate. The successful candidate will have extensive construction project management experience and be flexible to the demands of such a position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- NC General Contractor’s License
- At least 3 years of construction experience
- Understanding of NC Commercial Building codes
- Coordinate with engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to ensure satisfactory delivery of design plans and assigned projects.
- Manage small professional service and/or construction contracts; tracks design and construction costs.
- Ensure projects align with established and approved design specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Track progress toward milestones, budgetary guidelines, or other performance indicators, and prepares reports for senior management.
