As our portfolio continues to grow, we are seeking a talented Architect or Job Captain to join our team and help lead projects from concept through construction.

Position

Summary

The Architect / Senior Job Captain will play a key role in the planning, design, documentation, and execution of retail and restaurant projects. The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically proficient, and experienced in coordinating project teams while producing high-quality design and construction documents.

In addition to project leadership responsibilities, this role will oversee and mentor Aureus Studio's production team, ensuring drawing quality, consistency, efficiency, and adherence to firm standards across all projects. This individual will serve as a bridge between design leadership and production staff, helping guide projects from concept through construction.

This position offers the opportunity to work directly with firm leadership, clients, consultants, contractors, and internal production staff on a variety of exciting projects nationwide.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, design, documentation, and execution of retail and restaurant projects.
  • Develop design concepts and translate them into construction-ready documents.
  • Oversee and manage the architectural production team, including assigning workloads, coordinating schedules, and maintaining project quality standards.
  • Mentor and support junior architects, designers, and production staff to promote professional growth and technical excellence.
  • Establish and maintain drawing standards, quality control processes, and production best practices throughout the firm.
  • Prepare and coordinate architectural drawings, permit sets, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate with consultants, engineers, landlords, and municipalities.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure milestones are met.
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and project coordination calls.
  • Review drawing packages, shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, and construction administration documentation.
  • Conduct site visits and assist with field observations as required.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable building codes, accessibility requirements, and client standards.
  • Collaborate closely with firm leadership to improve project delivery processes and overall team performance.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
  • 6+ years of professional architectural experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in retail, restaurant, hospitality, or commercial architecture.
  • Previous experience leading project teams and coordinating production staff.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, permitting processes, and construction documentation.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to design excellence.
Preferred
  • Licensed Architect or actively pursuing licensure.
  • Experience with construction administration.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch Up, Bluebeam, and rendering software.
  • Experience working with franchise, retail rollout, or multi-location restaurant projects.
  • Knowledge of tenant improvement and landlord review processes.
