The Instruction Coordinator at the Whitewater Center (Whitewater) assists in managing our guest-facing instructional programs. The scope of This role will vary based on the demand of each program in season but plays a pivotal part in the success of daily operations and supporting the team in delivering high quality instruction programming. The Instruction Coordinator is a full-time, seasonal, hourly employee and reports directly to the Instruction Manager.
Responsibilities- Facilitate Whitewater Kayak, Swiftwater Rescue, Lifeguard, and First Aid & CPR/ AED instruction across all platforms and programs the Whitewater Center offers.
- Assist in management of all instructional programs by supporting logistics and administrative responsibilities for the operations.
- Utilize differentiated, student‑centered instruction techniques, exercise useful and purposeful practices, engage in instructional lesson planning, and develop performance assessments.
- Execute all safety and operational processes involved in whitewater instruction for the Class II−IV artificial whitewater course.
- Practice thorough communication across teams, and aid where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operation.
- Continue to improve and develop personally as an administrator, instructor and facilitator.
- Maintain accurate knowledge of activities, products, and services offered by the Whitewater Center.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working for a whitewater outfitter within an instruction program, a guiding program, or another similar experience.
- Current First Aid, CPR & AED Certification – courses are offered by the Whitewater Center.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and during other Whitewater events as needed.
- ACA Whitewater Kayak Instructor certification preferred.
- ACA or Rescue 3 Swiftwater Rescue Instructor certification preferred.
- And or experience with NFPA standards & training.
- Lifeguard or Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.
- Wilderness First Aid, or Wilderness First Responder certification preferred.
- Has attended Swiftwater Rescue Training in the past 2 years and is capable of obtaining certification in an instructor capacity.
- Must be able to perform challenging maneuvers confidently and consistently in Class II-IV whitewater in a raft or whitewater kayak.
- Must be able to rescue students in Class II-IV whitewater.
- Must be able to safely self‑transport over uneven terrain or in a confined space.
- Must be able to work outdoors for sustained periods of time in all weather and environmental conditions.
- Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
Must be able to instruct and/or guide a minimum of 3-5 hours per day. - Must be able to bend, stand, lean, and kneel on a regular basis and for sustained periods of time.
- Must be able to work in shared space with other employees and customers.
- All positions at Whitewater require employees to report and work onsite at Whitewater locations.

The Instruction Team falls under the Events Department and is responsible for leading and supporting experiences in a variety of water and land-based activities. The team also instructs guests through the Whitewater Center’s Outdoor School and Summer Camps. Instruction employees engage with guests through an assortment of pass activities and help create memorable outdoor experiences.
