Responsibilities Under occasional supervision, the Graduate Admissions Counselor is responsible for the recruitment and enrollment of diverse student populations including but not limited to ethnic, cultural, social, lifestyle, and global diversity. Additionally, the recruitment and enrollment of a growing graduate population. The Graduate Admissions Counselor engages in the following duties:
Recruits and assists in enrolling talented, highly qualified students from diverse backgrounds;
Assists the Director in cultivating strategic partnerships with secondary schools, community colleges, four-year colleges, and industry leaders;
Communicates and promotes the University's educational programs especially the graduate program (s). The Graduate Admissions Counselor reports to the Master of Social Work Program Director.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Represents the University and its image with the utmost of integrity, responsibility, and accountability.
  • Provide strategic leadership for graduate student recruitment
  • Assists in the implementation of the University's enrollment management plan by fostering relationships and building partnerships that engage specific internal and external constituents.
  • Coordinates one or more significant business functions within the MSW Admissions including, but not limited to direct mail campaigns, campus tours, outreach and presence on the World Wide Web, international and diverse student recruitment, etc.
  • Assist with the management of data entry personnel and processes.
  • Discusses admissions policies and procedures with prospective students; provides information regarding financial aid and scholarships.
  • Plans and coordinates recruitment and orientation programs including graduate recruitment and orientation events; gives presentations to various groups.
  • Promotes the University's educational programs to student prospects through visits, college/professional school fairs, personal interviews and individual recruiting.
  • Maintains communications and relationship building with prospective students up to and through the enrollment and registration process.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and processes admission applications.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date information on students, on contact cards, EMAS, and Jenzabar.
  • Maintains records of all travel expenses and provides timely reporting and appropriate use of travel advances or reimbursements.
  • Receives reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of documents such as weekly admissions report, travel receipts, travel requisitions, expense reports, phone reports, schedules, applications, memos, correspondence, etc.
  • Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a computer, typewriter, printer, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, etc.
  • Interacts and communicates collaboratively with immediate supervisor, co-workers, other department heads and employees, faculty members, students, prospective students, parents, high school personnel, various school/community organizations, professional peers, and the general public.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs general administrative work as required, including composing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering computer data, answering the telephone, preparing mail, etc.
  • Serves on University committees as appropriate.
  • Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a Bachelor's degree supplemented by 2 years of substantive experience in admissions, recruitment, student services, counseling, or other relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Excellent interpersonal skills (written, verbal, phone) and work ethic required. Must be knowledgeable and experienced in diverse student recruitment and graduate student recruitment.

Travel required; must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and some weekends. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered. Candidates from diverse ethnic, cultural, and social backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Preferably, social work and graduate recruitment experience.
