Position: Student Success Advisor (Business, Technology, and Law)

Under general supervision, the Student Success Advisor provides enrollment, advising, and registration assistance to a specified case load. Through identification of student needs, the advisor will provide available services, support, and resources to increase academic readiness, progress, and success. The advisor will also help to create and approve an electronic Student Education Plan (SEP) which will allow students to register for classes.

Student Success Advisors are responsible for maintaining a database (Watermark) to assist and support students, regularly checking academic progress, and providing follow-up and follow-through when necessary. Position will participate in professional development trainings related to the College’s Student Information System(s) and Portal; financial aid, career, and academic planning; advising; and registration.

This position supports students in the Business, Technology and Law Division.

Responsibilities
  • Attends provided trainings to become knowledgeable regarding PCC resources, program and transfer opportunities, and requirements.
  • Provide enrollment, advising, and registration assistance to a specified case load.
  • Provide strong and effective support for the College’s Strategic Plan and Student Success initiatives and provide assistance with meeting the goals and objectives of the Plan and initiatives.
  • Develop and sign-off on a Student Education Plan (SEP) with each assigned advisee. Intervene when students deviate from established plan. Ensure each student’s progression toward his or her academic and career goals is monitored.
  • Utilize student retention and completion data and research to inform decisions regarding student success and advisement. Collaborate with College personnel to develop advisement outcomes and plans for continuous improvement.
  • Work with students in case load to create, document, and approve a Student Educational Plan. Creating these plans will involve:
  • Provide assistance with course selection/schedules by:
  • Advising students to balance their work and class schedule.
  • Assisting students in choosing the appropriate mode of course instruction.
  • Facilitating and managing schedule changes and PCC’s Withdrawal Process for new and continuing students.
  • Monitor advisees’ progress and provide regular, customized feedback.
  • Provide periodic grade reviews and mid-semester check to review grades; meet with students who are having academic difficulty or who are on academic probation.
  • Monitor and work with appropriate department(s)/office(s) to remove registration flags/holds when necessary.
  • Adhere to PCC’s academic policies and procedures.
  • Intervene, provide support, and develop next steps for students facing academic problems identified through Early Alert, as well as those facing academic probation, suspension, or other issues.
  • Collaborate and assist with New Student Orientation.
  • Advise/register students after New Student Orientation, during Add/Drop periods, and for late-start classes.
  • Provide referrals for services based upon individualized student needs. Refers and connects students with relevant College resources.
  • Work with faculty and staff from your assigned division to develop guidelines and information for particular program areas.
  • Assign and transition students to a faculty advisor after successful completion of two major semesters at PCC.
  • Collaborate with Distance Learning, so students learn and can demonstrate the ability to navigate Moodle and MYPITTCC.
  • Collaborate with areas of the College to support Student Success initiatives and to provide students with accurate and timely information to make informed and positive decisions.
  • Other related duties as assigned
