OUR MISSION
Movement Schools is a growing network of free, public charter schools. We exist to love and value scholars and communities by leading a movement of excellence in education. In partnership with our families, we equip our scholars with the tools to close generational gaps through self‑efficacy, access to world‑class instruction, and financial education.
About This RoleWe are seeking a passionate, mission‑aligned K‑5 Foreign Language Teacher to join our North Carolina school community. This role is ideal for educators who believe early language instruction is more than vocabulary — it is a powerful tool for cultural understanding, identity development, and expanded opportunity for every elementary scholar.
What You’ll DoAs a K‑5 Foreign Language Teacher, you will design and lead engaging, standards‑aligned world language instruction — in the target language assigned to the role (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin, French, ASL) — that builds elementary scholar communication skills across listening, speaking, and beginning reading and writing. You’ll create an immersive, structured, and joyful environment where K‑5 scholars develop confidence, cultural awareness, and lifelong language skills.
When not in session with scholars, you will support school‑wide operations to keep our campus running smoothly.

- Use comprehensible input, target‑language immersion, and engaging instructional strategies (TPRS, total physical response, authentic resources, etc.) appropriate to scholar level
- Build cultural literacy through authentic texts, music, traditions, and global perspectives
- Assess scholar growth using performance‑based assessments aligned to ACTFL proficiency benchmarks
- Differentiate instruction to support scholars with diverse abilities, including those with IEPs and 504 plans, and heritage learners where applicable
- Build strong relationships with scholars, families, and staff
- Support school‑wide culture, arrival/dismissal duties, transitions, and family engagement events
- Participate in coaching cycles, professional development, and grade‑level planning
- Lead or support cultural celebrations, language clubs, or family engagement events that build community
- Support school‑wide operations during non‑instructional blocks — including arrival and dismissal duties, lunch and recess coverage, hallway transitions, family engagement events, and other operational needs as assigned
- Believe in the potential of every scholar and are committed to equity
- Bring energy, creativity, and joy to your classroom every day
- Are reliable, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Communicate clearly and build positive relationships with scholars, families, and adults
- Are coachable, reflective, and open to feedback
- Thrive in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment

- Valid North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) teaching license in the target world language (K–12) — Initial Professional License (IPL), Continuing Professional License (CPL), or Residency License — OR eligibility to obtain through an approved NC alternative licensure pathway
- Passing score on the NCSBE‑approved Pearson content licensure exam for the target world language (per NCDPI policy LICN‑003), or willingness to attempt within the first year and pass by the third year of an IPL.
Note:
for languages without a Pearson exam, NCDPI may accept alternative content verification such as ACTFL proficiency assessments. - Demonstrated proficiency in the target language at the Advanced‑Low level or higher on the ACTFL OPI — or at the Intermediate‑High level for non‑Roman‑alphabet languages (preferred for…
