Position: *Teacher, Alternative License Pathway (All Subjects)*

Job Description

We are seeking candidates to enter the teaching profession on an alternative license during the 2026‑2027 or 2027‑2028 academic year. A position is available for those who may receive a Permit to Teach or Emergency License in 2026‑2027 with potential conversion to a Residency License thereafter. The posting also supports applicants for the CMS Teaching Residency program for the 2027‑2028 cohort.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (24 semester hours of relevant coursework)
  • Minimum 2.7 GPA, calculated using undergraduate or postgraduate coursework
  • Official, degree‑dated transcript from a regionally accredited university for every post‑secondary institution attended, including transfer credits, community college, and post‑baccalaureate coursework
  • No active or expired North Carolina or out‑of‑state teaching license (former Lateral Entry license candidates are eligible)
Summary

Teachers support the instructional process by serving as classroom leaders, supervising students and delivering lesson plans and instruction within established curriculum guidelines. They collaborate with colleagues, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional or classroom issues and respond to inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

Essential Duties
  • Provide all students with the best education available, preparing every child to lead a rich and productive life in the 21st century
  • Create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students
  • Teach courses assigned by a principal or supervisor, aligned to the teacher’s licensure area, including combined grade classes and specialized subjects such as math, science, or literacy
  • Prepare course objectives and outlines following curriculum guidelines or state requirements
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals in alignment with the CMS Strategic Plan
