Position: Assistant, Job Coach (26-27SY)

The exceptional children job coach assistant, under general supervision, performs school-based work related to assisting the assigned teacher by assisting students in the area of employment as defined by the requirements in the Occupational Course of Study (OCS) curriculum.

Pay Grade NC 07B Hourly Non-Certified Schedule/Full-time, 9 months

Reports To Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte
- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Work with individual students or small groups of students participating in community-based training (CBT) and paid employment
  • Assist in planning individual and/or group employment activities
  • Observe behavior while students participate in employment and CBT activities; assist teacher in developing and maintaining behavior management plan
  • Follow up with job sites and school staff regarding student performance and behavior
  • Assist in monitoring student performance
  • Prepare appropriate materials
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining job setting
  • Prepare notes and collect data to support curriculum
  • Assist in clerical duties
  • Alert the teacher to problems or special information about individual students as needed
  • Participate in training programs for professional growth
  • Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of existing policies and procedures with the ability to follow policies and procedures while accomplishing assigned tasks
  • Skilled in communication, both verbal and in writing
  • Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
  • Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma required
  • Associate's degree with a concentration in Education preferred
  • At Title I schools, completion of an Associates degree or two years of higher education or ability to pass Workkeys & 96 Hours Professional Development required
  • Two (2) years working with school age children preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license or ability to provide own transportation
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
