Performs a variety of administrative and counseling duties that assist students in making carer decisions, meeting employers, and managing the job search process.

  • 1. Counsels students regarding the career development process, including administering and interpreting career assessment instruments such as the Meyers Briggs Inventory, Strong Interest Inventory.
  • 2. Designs and implements outreach programs to promote and encourage use of career services by students, faculty, and staff.
  • 3. Advises students individually and in class presentations regarding résumé writing, interviewing and job search skills.
  • 4. Develops promotional materials and strategies for the department.
  • 5. Assists students in finding career information on the web.
  • 6. Contributes content to assigned webpages or marketing materials.
  • 7. Serves as a liaison to assigned academic departments, works collaboratively with faculty members to promote and provide career services.
  • 8. Assists employers and and works as part of a cross-functional team to host hiring and student development events.
  • 9. Advises and counsels undecided students through the career development process.
  • 10. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Student Development or a related field and one year experience in career counseling (in a college career services office or related setting preferred)

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:
    • Knowledge of career counseling theory, practice, trends, and strategies.
    • Knowledge of career software and assessment instruments such as the MBTI and the Strong Interest Inventory
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills
    • Strong knowledge of career development and job search processes
    • Excellent presentation skills
    • Ability to demonstrate cultural competence in work with a diverse student population
    • Flexibility and the ability to manage multiple tasks
    • Marketing skills
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
    • Experience in workshop, event, and program development
