Job Summary – Carolina CAT’s Advanced Electrical Services (AES) team is expanding. We seek experienced Field Service Engineers to perform inspections, modifications, and repairs on low‑ and medium‑voltage electrical systems for a range of industries. Essential Functions- Execute electrical field service activities: technical assistance, preventive maintenance, modifications, repairs, and system checkout for new and existing installations.
- Troubleshoot and operate programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Network communications diagnostics are a plus.
- Apply DC/AC voltage circuit theory and practical troubleshooting to resolve issues.
- Read schematics and blueprints for power control and automation, providing customer technical support.
- Diagnose diesel‑based governor and load‑sharing systems (480 VAC/12.47 KVAC) and engine‑generator/transformer circuit breakers.
- Identify operational failures of permanent‑magnet and self‑excited generator sets (13 kW‑4 MW+), generator control panels, station batteries, and chargers.
- Install, service, and maintain OEM generators, UPS units, utility/emergency switch gear, automatic transfer switches, and other power‑system products, including coordinated start‑up installations and paralleling switch gear.
- Inspect, test, and repair low‑ and medium‑voltage power control systems and distribution switchboards.
- Document all work and repairs in service reports promptly.
- Adhere to OSHA safety rules and regulations for electrical and technical work.
- Maintain a safe, clean driving record; operate a company‑issued service vehicle.
- Utilize industry tooling (electric screwdrivers, meters, wrenches, sockets, etc.) for daily tasks.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Education:
High school diploma required; 2‑year AAS or BAS in Electrical Engineering or related technology preferred. - Experience:
Minimum 2‑3 years in electrical power generation or related field‑service work. - Customer‑oriented, self‑starter, able to focus in critical environments.
- Valid state driver’s license; ready for emergency calls after hours.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal abilities.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills (keyboarding, email, internet, databases, Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF) for accurate service report creation.
- Valid driver’s license (redundant but noted).
Physical Demands:
Regular standing, walking, hand use, reaching; occasional climbing, stooping, lifting up to 25 lb. Specific vision abilities: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus. Must operate equipment safely.
Work Environment:
May encounter moving mechanical parts, high or precarious locations, fumes or airborne particles, extreme temperatures, wet or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock risk. Noise levels occasionally loud.
