We focus on the operations and maintenance of water treatment plants, equipment, and water-related infrastructure by deploying trained and qualified operating and maintenance personnel to client facilities. Watercare Innovations is based in Charlotte, the United States, and Gauteng South Africa.
The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and detailing of mechanical systems and components using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD. The role includes 3D modelling, preparation of manufacturing drawings, compilation of bills of materials (BOMs), and technical support through the full project lifecycle—from concept and design to manufacturing, site installation, and commissioning support. The engineer will also assist with pump selection, finite element analysis (FEA) where required, procurement activities, and general project engineering duties.
Key Responsibilities- Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.
- Produce 2D manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly drawings in AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Compile accurate bills of materials (BOMs) for manufacturing and procurement purposes.
- Assist with mechanical design calculations and equipment sizing.
- Perform or support finite element analysis (FEA) where required to validate designs.
- Assist with pump selection based on hydraulic requirements, duty points, and system conditions.
- 3D Modelling and Detailing
- Conduct site visits for measurements, inspections, installation support, and design verification.
- Attend manufacturing workshops to support fabrication, resolve design queries, and ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Liaise with workshop personnel, contractors, and suppliers to address technical issues.
- Project & Procurement Support
- Assist with procurement by preparing technical specifications, evaluating supplier quotations, and supporting vendor selection.
- Support project engineering activities, including documentation control, technical reports, and progress tracking.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, codes, and project specifications.
- Quality, Safety & Documentation
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and revision control.
- Ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
- Adhere to company quality systems, health and safety requirements, and project procedures.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience in 3D modelling, detailed design, and manufacturing drawings.
- Ability to compile and manage bills of materials (BOMs).
- Basic understanding of pumps, mechanical systems, and equipment selection.
- Willingness to travel for site and manufacturing visits.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
- Exposure to project engineering and procurement processes.
- Experience in industrial, water treatment, process plant, or manufacturing environments.
- Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good time management and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Conduct site visits for measurements, inspections, installation support, and design verification.
