Position PurposeIn this role, you have the opportunity to impact the corporation by combining your understanding of manufacturing processes with disciplined problem‑solving methods to deliver direct impact to the company bottom line. Project assignments vary widely and can include deep study of fundamental understanding of glass, ceramic, or molding processes; qualification of new equipment; augmenting manufacturing operations; identifying process improvements; finding ways to increase throughput and capacity;
or identifying needed technology to enhance capability. In addition to manufacturing know‑how, you will use project management skills to manage timelines, costs, and deliverables. MTE process engineering plays a unique role across the entire corporation, depending on project priority or urgency. The Chemical and Process Engineering leadership is committed to providing relevant training focused on the fundamentals of manufacturing excellence and leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the design and development of new processes or improvement to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide.
- Lead yourself and teams toward solving problems and improving processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem‑solving methods such as KT, designed experimentation, or Six Sigma.
- Lead the implementation of process control and process discipline systems into manufacturing operations, and use your analytical skills to analyze process data with statistical tools (e.g., pareto charts, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R).
- Measure and communicate performance against established objectives, review and interpret data to recommend immediate actions and long‑term corrective actions, conduct follow‑up experiments, document processes, and mentor operators and peers on defined processes.
Must be available for significant (up to 75%) travel within the North Carolina region, including potential to multiple locations to support business needs. International travel may be required.
Required Education And Years Of ExperienceMinimum of a BS in chemical, materials, ceramic, or mechanical engineering (MS preferred) and 5+ years of hands‑on experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding.
Required Skills- Demonstrated use of scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well‑designed and executed processes and experiment plans.
- Ability to determine and recommend the best solution from a series of alternatives within production facility guidelines.
- Strong data analysis and statistical skills; proficient with Microsoft Excel, Minitab, or equivalent.
- Basic process capability/run charting and trend charting experience.
- Deep knowledge of process excellence.
- Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization, including written and verbal communication to leadership and appropriate documentation.
- Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.
- Knowledge of Corning’s businesses.
- Prior experience in a plant or division engineering group.
- Strong internal Corning network.
- Performance Excellence training—ideally green belt or higher certification in LEAN manufacturing.
- PMP certification.
- Mechanical aptitude/equipment understanding.

CompensationThe range for this position is $97,286.00 – $ assuming full‑time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of factors, including geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
