This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a LiDAR Technician Project Coordinator/QAQC to fill a position in Mooresville, Raleigh, Charlotte, or Wilmington NC office supporting our Mobile/UAS LiDAR, Geospatial / Surveying Team. The successful candidate will be able to function at a high level independently with minimal oversight in setting up projects, classifying the lidar, performing extraction, and performing QA/QC of transportation and or UAS projects of other individuals’ work.

Ensure data accuracy and compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver high‑quality geospatial solutions. This is an exceptional opportunity for career progression for a junior level or midlevel lidar technician joining a team of subject matter experts who prioritize work life balance.

Your Impact
  • Demonstrate teamwork by working with the processing team, extraction team and project managers to set up projects, create working seed files, build cell libraries, and contribute with feature extraction as needed.
  • Coordinate with and QA/QC other team members extraction efforts.
  • Work with project managers to identify workflows specific for each job to maximize efficiency.
  • Mentor and train new extractors as the department grows.
  • Maintain standard operating procedure documentation.
  • Stay current with industry software updates.
  • Assist with R&D of alternative workflows and software’s for advancement of services and looking for further efficiencies to be gained.
  • Function as team lead for project managers and other Laser Scan team members in LiDAR registration and extraction.
  • Perform review of mobile/UAS control provided by WSP team and/or others. This includes conventional survey data, Static GPS data, VRS data, and level reports.
  • Create and review digital models and mapping of LiDAR and other types of traditional survey projects.
  • Assist with client interactions to help meet all scope of work requirements.
  • Assist with proposal writing and mobile/UAS lidar estimates.
  • Observe and comply with all company and related safety rules.
  • Assist with writing surveying reports summarizing site inspection and survey findings and conclusions.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, engineers, scientists, project control, and technicians on assigned tasks.
  • Engage in occasional contact with client personnel to schedule and coordinate project activities.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience with Mobile/UAS LiDAR Surveys.
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a diverse team.
  • A working knowledge of surveying mathematics, land surveying practices, and procedures.
  • Proficient in Bentley software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Overall knowledge of conducting field operations.
  • Understanding of office operations.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Experience with Topo Dot, Terra Solid software preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to work within team environment and collaborate with others.
  • Competent self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening, including a valid driver’s license.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Able to work occasional overtime as per project.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS degree in Surveying, Engineering Technology or related areas.
  • ASPRS Certified.
  • Experience in DOT work with Mobile/UAS LiDAR units.
  • Terrasolid experience.
  • TopoDOT proficiency.
