The EHS Manager will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive Environmental, Health & Safety program for a new U.S. manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for OSHA and environmental compliance, high‑hazard risk management, regulatory readiness, and the implementation of sustainable EHS systems from startup through steady‑state operations. The position partners closely with site leadership to establish a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and protect employees, contractors, and the environment in a high‑voltage manufacturing environment.
OSHACompliance & Regulatory Readiness
- Lead OSHA compliance across all manufacturing and high‑hazard operations, including high‑voltage processes.
- Serve as primary contact for OSHA and state agencies; prepare for and manage inspections.
- Maintain OSHA logs, incident records, and regulatory documentation.
- Conduct risk assessments, JHAs, PHAs, and equipment‑specific hazard evaluations for complex manufacturing processes.
- Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Build and implement a comprehensive EHS management system for a new U.S. manufacturing operation.
- Establish and track leading and lagging safety metrics; drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs, including onboarding, job‑specific training, and annual refreshers.
- Support leadership in building and sustaining a proactive, safety‑first culture across all departments.
- Establish and enforce contractor safety programs for construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Develop emergency response, evacuation, and crisis‑management plans during construction and startup phases.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations covering hazardous waste, chemical management, air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, and SPCC.
- Maintain environmental permits, conduct audits, and lead corrective actions for ongoing compliance.
- 7–10+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or electrical/high‑voltage environments.
- Expert knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910, with strong emphasis on Subparts S, O, R, and Z.
- Proven experience leading OSHA audits and managing regulatory inspections and agency interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to build EHS and safety programs from the ground up.
- Strong background in risk assessment methodologies, including JHA, PHA, FMEA, and/or Bowtie analysis.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root‑cause analysis.
- Strong communication, leadership, and influencing skills across hourly, technical, and leadership teams.
- Proficiency with EHS management systems and digital reporting tools.
- One or more professional certifications: CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent.
- Experience in high‑voltage manufacturing, transformer components, or electrical equipment production.
- Experience supporting greenfield manufacturing startups or facility commissioning.
- Hands‑on experience supporting active construction environments and contractor safety management.
- Experience with environmental permitting and agency negotiations during facility startup.
- Ability to operate independently in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment with limited existing infrastructure.
