General The Senior Planner/Scheduler provides Project Controls functional leadership and support for proposals and active heavy industrial power projects. Fossil power experience preferred.
This role is responsible for developing, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting integrated project schedules to support successful project execution in alignment with contractual, cost, and schedule objectives. The position requires advanced expertise in scheduling principles, Oracle Primavera P6, resource management, earned value management, and schedule risk mitigation. The Senior Planner/Scheduler collaborates closely with engineering, procurement, construction, estimating, and project management teams, as well as clients and subcontractors, to ensure schedules are accurate, logically sound, and fully integrated across all project phases.
In addition to direct project support, this role contributes to the development and continuous improvement of Project Controls policies, procedures, standards, and best practices, supporting both proposal development and project execution. The position serves as a key advisor to project leadership by identifying schedule risks, evaluating alternatives, and providing actionable insights to drive informed decision-making.
Specific Duties- Develop, maintain, and analyze detailed proposal and project schedules using Oracle Primavera P6 in support of bids and executed work.
- Provide Project Controls functional support during proposal development, including schedule strategy, milestone planning, and alignment with estimating and execution plans.
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Project Controls policies, procedures, templates, and standards.
- Capture, analyze, and document lessons learned related to pre-construction, estimating, project controls, procurement, construction, and quality.
- In collaboration with functional department managers, initiate and support process improvements to enhance Project Controls effectiveness and benefit future proposals and projects.
- Establish and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) consistent with contract requirements, company standards, and Project Controls policies and procedures.
- Create integrated summary and detailed schedules covering all phases of work, including engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
- Ensure logical sequencing of activities, identification of critical and near-critical paths, and compliance with Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling principles.
- Integrate schedules from multiple disciplines, subcontractors, and work packages to ensure alignment and consistency across the overall project plan.
- Review and interpret engineering and commercial documents, including contracts, scope of work, general arrangement drawings, bills of materials, and project estimates, to ensure schedule accuracy and completeness.
- Identify potential scope changes, schedule risks, and impacts, and communicate findings and recommended mitigation strategies to project and functional leadership.
- Facilitate and support schedule development workshops, work sessions, and coordination meetings with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Identify, analyze, and incorporate project constraints, including resource availability, outages, permitting, inspections, and external dependencies.
- Develop and evaluate alternative planning and sequencing scenarios to mitigate schedule risk and minimize impacts to key milestones.
- Estimate activity durations using historical data, benchmarking, and industry standards, ensuring alignment with execution strategies.
- Load, level, and analyze resources within project constraints, and generate resource curves to validate schedule feasibility.
- Review, validate, and integrate schedule updates and inputs from project teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure data integrity and compliance with standards.
- Assess the impact of progress updates on critical path activities, interim milestones, contractual dates, and overall project completion.
