Post-Doctoral Fellow – Experimental Heat Transfer & Multiphase Flows
The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Engineering Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to conduct experimental research on two‑phase heat transfer, multiscale flow dynamics, and interfacial phenomena. The candidate will work under faculty supervision, collaborate with modelers, and mentor graduate students.
Key Responsibilities- Design, conduct, and analyze two‑phase heat transfer and interfacial flow experiments.
- Develop and apply advanced imaging and sensing techniques (high‑speed interferometry, particle image velocimetry, acoustics sensing).
- Collaborate with computational experts to integrate experimental data with numerical models.
- Mentor graduate students and contribute to research instruction.
- Publish results in peer‑reviewed journals and present findings at scientific conferences.
- Recent Ph.D. (within the last 8 years) in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in liquid‑vapor phase change heat transfer, multiphase flows, or interfacial instabilities.
- Experience with advanced imaging, sensing, or data acquisition techniques.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Evidence of independent research and a strong publication record is preferred.
Annual salary range: $60,000 – $70,000
. The assignment is 12 months (one year), with possible extension to a second year based on performance. The position is temporary, full‑time (40 hours per week). Work schedule is variable.
Charlotte, North Carolina, USA (Campus: Duke campus). The role may involve occasional travel to collaborate with external laboratories.
