Position Summary
The I&C Cabinet and Ch Designer supports the I&C Technology team by designing and implementing mechanical structures (cabinets, chassis, panels, and mounting/support hardware) used to house and mount safety-related I&C electronic equipment for nuclear power plant applications
. This position interfaces closely with electronic hardware design and qualification testing teams and requires strong mechanical design capability, disciplined documentation, familiarity with applicable codes/standards, and effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Design and develop control system chassis and cabinets used in nuclear power plant safety-related systems
- Create 3D models, layouts, and detailed fabrication/assembly drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor (including BOMs and revision control)
- Translate electrical hardware requirements into robust mechanical packaging solutions (mounting schemes, access, serviceability, thermal/spacing considerations)
- Support analysis and validation efforts to confirm designs meet performance expectations and applicable safety/regulatory requirements
- Produce engineering documentation including design specifications, reports, and supporting manuals/work instructions as needed
- Participate in design reviews; incorporate feedback and maintain configuration through the design lifecycle
- Provide technical support for build/assembly activities and assist in troubleshooting mechanical issues to support reliable operation
- Ensure designs and installations comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and internal quality procedures
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, civil/structural, testing/qualification, manufacturing, and project stakeholders)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or field)
- Proven experience in mechanical design and project execution (cabinet/chassis, enclosures, packaging, or similar)
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Inventor
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, design for manufacturability, and documentation practices
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work across teams and priorities
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Experience designing enclosures/cabinets for regulated or high-reliability environments (energy, industrial, aerospace, etc.)
- Familiarity with qualification testing support (fit checks, prototype builds, test-ready documentation)
- Experience with tools such as MATLAB for analysis support (as applicable)
- Experience supporting maintenance/troubleshooting of mechanical systems in the field or during commissioning
