Position Overview
Title: Sr Engineer - Transmission Protection & Controls (P&C) - Project Scoping
Location: Charlotte, NC
Duration: 24 months
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days/week onsite, remote after onboarding. Must live within reasonable commute to a Company facility.
Travel: Some travel required. Personal vehicle will be driven with mileage reimbursed. Scopers typically attend 1-2 sites per week.
Authorization: Must be fully authorized to work in the US without sponsorship for the duration of the contract.
Responsibilities- Create the Protection & Controls ("Electrical") scope of work for capital improvement projects to ensure constructability, regulatory compliance and adherence to industry and Company standards. Scoping efforts include, but are not limited to the following.
- Assess substation yard and control house impacts and requirements
- Specify major equipment changes
- Identify cable/cable type
- Specify relays and determine panel layouts
- Assess and account for telecom requirements
- Identify equipment and material needed for projects
- Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing complexity both in and outside of typical responsibilities
- Engage with a variety of project stakeholders (i.e. Construction and Maintenance, Project Management, Planning and Operations, etc.) to ensure stakeholder needs are accounted for in project scopes
- Attend site visits to review current conditions and planned changes with project stakeholders
- Ensure accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results
- Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing complexity
- Conduct engineering and related studies
- Complete non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces
- Possess and apply the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity
- Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
- Maintain accurate records and files
- Support the company's goals and represent the company positively and professionally
Note:

- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the
B. S. engineering degree. - Minimum of 4 years engineering experience.

B. S. engineering degree. - Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer (PE). Experience must have been attained at a "Fully Meets" performance level.
- State Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
- Proficient in the design of protection settings and control of all classes of substations (T to T, T to D, Customer, etc.)
- Familiar with the creation of SPCC plans and secondary oil containment designs
- Proficient in engineering theories and principles
- Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
- Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
- Familiar with principles of project management
- Experience in the utility industry
