Overview

System One is seeking a Senior Staff Power Engineer who will play a key role in shaping the future of electrical reliability and safety across major natural gas and petrochemical operations. In this high impact role, you’ll serve as the technical expert for complex power system design, analysis, and maintenance leading strategic initiatives that enhance system performance and support critical infrastructure.

You will work on large-scale projects, guide engineering standards, interpret industry codes, and provide hands‑on mentorship to engineers across multiple disciplines. Responsibilities
  • Apply your industry expertise by working independently on large‑scale, complex projects, and anticipate business trends.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop innovative services or processes that meet current and future customer needs, and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to leadership and supervise team members as needed.
  • Provide technical leadership in power engineering design, maintenance, and reliability best practices for electrical equipment across the company.
  • Support project execution and technical services with internal power engineering expertise.
  • Interpret industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements, offering assessments, strategies, and recommendations for adoption.
  • Perform sophisticated technical tasks, leading projects of significant scope and complexity.
  • Develop and implement engineering standards and specifications, including electrical area classification and grounding design.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and standards such as OSHA, DOT, and company policies.
  • Diagnose complex electrical issues, providing expert guidance and training.
  • Design and implement preventive maintenance programs for electrical systems.
  • Conduct in-depth power system analyses, including short‑circuit, load flow, arc flash hazard, harmonics, and power factor correction studies.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance electrical system reliability through root cause analysis and system studies.
  • Evaluate engineering packages for compliance with standards, codes, and project objectives.
  • Perform resource planning and oversee engineering tasks to ensure project success.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on technical findings and project updates.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university, with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive engineering experience in the natural gas or petrochemical industry for the Engineer Staff role; 8 years for the Engineer Sr role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple engineering specialties and subject areas.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a focus on safety as a top priority.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and PC skills.
  • Expertise in power system analysis, including short‑circuit, coordination, arc‑flash hazard analysis, etc.
  • Experience with engineering tools such as SKM Power Systems, ETAP, GE Multilin, and SEL Relay Software.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards like API, IEEE, NESC, NEC, and NFPA.
  • Experience designing layouts, specifying equipment, performing grounding, and protection and coordination studies.
  • (Preferred) Project management experience and PE certification.
