The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) operates within a fast‑paced, mission‑critical environment focusing on projects that directly enhance national security. This role is part of the Operational Excellence team and reports directly to the Director of Quality and Compliance.
Job DescriptionThe SQE drives quality deliverables and performance for our supply base, including quality plan development and implementation.
Responsibilities- Participate in supplier selection and validation, per quality plan requirements.
- Own supplier results and drive improvements utilizing supplier scorecards.
- Own supplier audits, ensuring compliance and driving improvement plans where needed.
- Has knowledge of best practices and how scope of work integrates with others.
- Perform supplier performance management by analyzing performance data and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Prevent or minimize business impact from supplied material defects; mitigate supplier quality risk.
- Utilize lean and analytical thinking to execute quality management system policy/strategy.
- Support process and product audits along with capacity assessments to ensure robust supplier processes.
- Provide material review dispositions for non‑conformances.
- Develop supplier quality requirements per customer or product specifications.
- Partner with Purchasing to establish supplier quality requirements during the Request for Quote process.
- Review Purchase Requisition and Purchase Orders for quality notes that should flow down to the supplier.
- Collaborate with Purchasing representatives on developing supplier relationships.
- Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience; may lead small projects with low risk and resource requirements.
- Operate with some autonomy while adhering to functional practices, precedents, and well‑defined policies.
- Use sound judgment to propose solutions outside of set parameters for complex day‑to‑day problems.
- Prioritize information for data analysis and use technical expertise and analytical thinking.
- Leverage internal and external resources to arrive at informed decisions.
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Minimum of 3 years in Automotive Quality, Manufacturing, Materials, or other Supply Chain Management role.
- Experience with international standards or other quality systems (required).
- Experience with Product Launch, APQP Process, PPAP.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively drive change and continuous improvement through influence, not authority.
- Microsoft Power Platform experience, as a plus.
- Comfortable with a dynamic, fast‑paced, highly variable business.
- Reasonable technical understanding of engineering drawings and ability to manage vendor relationships.
