Consulting Associate, Environmental Engineer, Geologist, or Scientist

Job Overview

Join ERM as a Consulting Associate, Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Scientist in either Raleigh or Charlotte, North Carolina. In this role you will support a variety of environmental projects—including site investigation, remediation, compliance, and hazardous waste management—while gaining hands‑on experience across North Carolina and beyond.

• Conduct field investigations including soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling.
• Perform aquifer testing, oversee drilling, log soil, install and develop wells, and conduct purging and sampling.
• Support remedial and wastewater treatment pilot testing and remedial system operation and maintenance.
• Assist in groundwater and wastewater system performance monitoring.
• Perform Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments.
• Compile, assess, and interpret environmental data; assist in preparation of technical reports.
• Prepare environmental compliance work plans, permits, and reporting for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, stormwater, and wastewater.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Work within scheduled scope, budget, and quality parameters.
• Communicate effectively with subcontractors, regulators, tenants, and clients during field activities.

• Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, environmental science, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Recent graduate to two years of relevant experience.
• Strong interest in fieldwork; ability to stand or walk for full field days.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to Health & Safety protocols.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear technical notes and reports.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Detail‑oriented with a problem‑solving, results‑focused mindset.
• Ability to multi‑task, travel, adapt, and self‑manage.
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Valid driver's license or ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Preferred certifications: 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER, GIT or EIT.
