About the Role:
The Metrology Engineer, CMM Programming and GD&T, is a mid-level engineering role focused on precision measurement, coordinate measuring machine programming, and quality assurance within advanced manufacturing environments. This position plays a critical role in developing CMM programs, interpreting complex engineering drawings, and ensuring compliance with GD&T standards and quality management systems. Ideal candidates bring expertise in PC-DMIS or Calypso, strong analytical skills, and experience supporting aerospace or high-precision manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute offline CMM programming using PC-DMIS and Calypso for precision part inspection and dimensional validation
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, and datum structures to create accurate inspection plans
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to plan and prioritize metrology and inspection activities
- Create detailed work instructions and setup documentation to support efficient execution of CMM measurement programs
- Provide technical support to shop floor personnel for CMM operations, measurement tools, and drawing interpretation
- Conduct internal audits and ensure compliance with quality management systems such as AS9100 and ISO standards
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes using methodologies such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, and 8D
- Generate and maintain quality documentation including First Article Inspection, Production Part Approval Process, and control plans
- Monitor and report quality KPIs such as First Pass Yield and inspection performance metrics
- Train and mentor junior metrology engineers and quality technicians on CMM programming, GD&T, and inspection best practices
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 or more years of experience in metrology, quality engineering, or precision inspection within a manufacturing environment
- Advanced proficiency in CMM programming using PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar metrology software
- Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, ASME Y14.5 standards, and datum structure interpretation
- Experience working within AS9100 or ISO-compliant quality management systems
- Hands-on experience with precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and optical comparators
- Strong technical writing, documentation, and communication skills
- Experience with root cause analysis, corrective action systems, and quality improvement methodologies
- Advanced certifications in GD&T, Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, or Certified Quality Engineer
- Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or high-precision manufacturing industries
- Lead auditor certification or experience conducting internal and external quality audits
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Solid Works and experience with model-based definition
- Advanced training or certification in Calypso or PC-DMIS programming
- Experience mentoring teams and leading cross-functional quality improvement initiatives
