Are you someone who can speak fluently across both the regulatory landscape and the technical realities of power system interconnection? Do you thrive in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments where no two projects are alike? Are you motivated by the conviction that getting interconnection right is foundational to the clean energy transition? If this sounds like you, or you’re curious to learn more, this role could be the perfect opportunity.
Join our Power Systems Department as our new Interconnection Expert and work with us to close the gap to a sustainable future.
You will be part of an elite team of power system engineers and play a pivotal role in delivering advanced solutions for a wide variety of clients, including energy‑intensive industries such as semiconductor manufacturing, municipal entities, data centre mega‑campuses, and pioneers in renewable energy. With substantial growth, seize the opportunity to shape our strategy and contribute to our agile team’s rich pipeline of projects.
Yournew role
As our new Interconnection Expert, you will serve as a trusted advisor to developers, utilities, and other stakeholders navigating the large load or generator interconnection process across major ISO/RTO markets. You will bring a rare combination of regulatory fluency and technical depth, helping our clients anticipate process challenges, respond to study results, and drive projects through to successful queue completion.
Your key responsibilities- Serve as lead advisor on generator interconnection strategy for a diverse portfolio of renewable energy and storage clients spanning multiple ISO/RTO markets.
- Navigate and interpret ISO/RTO tariffs, interconnection procedures, and queue reform developments, translating regulatory complexity into actionable client guidance.
- Review and critically evaluate interconnection feasibility studies, system impact studies, and facility studies, identifying issues and developing response strategies.
- Coordinate and manage information exchanges between clients, ISOs, and transmission owners throughout the interconnection queue process.
- Support clients during interconnection agreement negotiations and LGIA/SGIA execution, drawing on both technical and commercial understanding.
- Monitor evolving FERC policy and ISO/RTO rule changes, including Order 2023 implementation, and advise clients on implications for their project portfolios.
- Collaborate with internal power systems engineers on interconnection‑related modelling, load flow, and short‑circuit analysis to ensure technical positions are well‑grounded.
- Contribute to business development, proposals, and client presentations, serving as a visible Ramboll subject‑matter expert in the interconnection space.
- Mentor junior staff developing expertise in interconnection process and regulatory affairs.
From the moment you start at Ramboll, we will support your personal and professional development so that you can continue to grow with the company. While we look forward to supporting your continued learning and development, for this role we have identified some qualifications, skills, and capabilities that will set you up for success.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Policy, or a closely related field; advanced degree a plus.
