Mechanical Engineer IV / Senior Mechanical Engineer
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer IV / Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering consulting team in Charlotte, NC. ResponsibilitiesAs a Mechanical Engineer IV / Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as a key member of the project team and represent the firm in interactions with clients, architects, contractors, and consultants. You will be responsible for designing complex building systems, preparing technical documentation, and providing engineering leadership throughout all phases of project delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct field investigations and existing condition assessments.
- Prepare feasibility studies, due diligence reports, gap analyses, and technical evaluations.
- Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
- Perform HVAC equipment selections, load calculations, energy analyses, and pressure drop calculations.
- Develop mechanical system designs, specifications, narratives, and construction documents.
- Participate in project scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning efforts.
- Process RFIs, change orders, addenda, and construction bulletins.
- Support and oversee QA/QC reviews for project deliverables.
- Perform construction administration and site observation activities.
- Interface directly with clients, owners, architects, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Participate in professional organizations and industry events.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineering and technical staff.
- Assist with employee performance reviews and staff development initiatives.
- Prepare construction cost estimates and Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) evaluations.
- Support proposal preparation and business development efforts.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum 7–8+ years of experience within an MEP consulting environment.
- Strong experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial building projects.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and telecommunications disciplines.
- Strong understanding of system constructability, cost impacts, and project delivery processes.
- EIT required.
- PE license required for Senior Mechanical Engineer level.
- LEED AP accreditation preferred.
- Experience with Mission Critical, Healthcare, Science & Technology, or other complex facilities is highly preferred.
