Mechanical Engineer III
Pay Rate Range: $55.00–$60.00/hr (DOE).
Employment Type:
Contract (12 Months, Potential Extension).
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, Standard Business Hours (~40 hrs/week).
Location:
Charlotte, NC 28216 (100% Onsite). Travel:
Up to 50% travel to Hickory and Wilmington, NC facilities. Positions: 4 Openings.
We are seeking experienced Mechanical Engineers to support advanced manufacturing equipment design, installation, startup, and integration projects for our client in Charlotte, NC. This role is ideal for a hands‑on engineer who enjoys working directly with manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting technical challenges, and supporting equipment from concept through commissioning.
Position SummaryThe Mechanical Engineer III will support the design, development, installation, startup and integration of advanced manufacturing equipment and automation systems. This role requires strong mechanical design expertise, hands‑on field support experience, and the ability to collaborate with engineers, vendors, contractors, and operations teams to deliver reliable manufacturing solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop mechanical components, fixtures, assemblies, and equipment systems
- Create and update detailed engineering designs using CAD software
- Support equipment installation, startup, commissioning, qualification, and performance verification
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and system performance issues
- Verify equipment assembly, layouts, and installations against engineering drawings and design requirements
- Coordinate equipment installation activities with safety, operations, contractors, and project teams
- Collaborate with engineers, vendors, contractors, and manufacturing personnel to resolve technical issues
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment performance, reliability, and manufacturability
- Maintain accurate equipment documentation, drawings, and installation records
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, machine safety requirements, and engineering standards
- Support manufacturing capital projects and process improvement efforts
- Education
- Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience
- Minimum 7+ years experienced in mechanical equipment design, equipment installation, startup and commissioning, manufacturing equipment support, and industrial automation environments.
- Technical Skills
- Strong mechanical design experience.
- Proficiency with Solid Works, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience designing equipment layouts, assemblies, fixtures, and manufacturing systems.
- Experience supporting high‑volume manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of machine guarding and OSHA safety standards.
- Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills.
- Experience supporting equipment integration across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience supporting capital equipment projects.
- Experience with manufacturing automation systems.
- Familiarity with controls engineering, electrical systems, process engineering, and facilities engineering.
- Experience working with contractors, vendors, and machine builders.
- Startup and commissioning experience in large‑scale manufacturing facilities.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on mechanical engineer who enjoys working both in the design office and on the manufacturing floor. They are comfortable supporting equipment builds, installation activities, startup efforts, and troubleshooting while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to keep projects moving safely and efficiently.

- Travel required to support projects at Corning facilities in Charlotte, Hickory, and Wilmington, NC.
