Engineer Technician I (Charlotte)
This entry-level Engineer Technician I role provides hands-on technical support to engineers on a variety of projects and products. You will collect, organize, and manipulate technical data; assist with the creation and maintenance of engineering documentation; and support field and office activities related to electrical and utility projects. Working under close supervision, you will apply basic engineering and scientific principles, gain exposure to company policies and procedures, and develop the skills needed to become proficient in engineering support and field data collection.
Responsibilities- Support engineers on technical projects by collecting, maintaining, organizing, compiling, and manipulating technical data.
- Create, build, assemble, modify, and/or repair prototypes as directed by engineering staff.
- Prepare engineering documentation, including reports, drawings, sketches, flow charts, diagrams, and schematics.
- Perform mathematical calculations in accordance with engineering specifications and guidelines.
- Undertake analysis of data using provided standards, procedures, and guidelines.
- Recommend alternative solutions to technical problems and obstacles based on collected data and observations.
- Set up and conduct tests, record data, and assist with engineering analysis and project evaluations.
- Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and third-party owners for joint-owned poles.
- Review work provided by the client and assess the requirements of project scopes to support accurate engineering design.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure compliance with applicable engineering and construction standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and develop mitigation strategies using engineering principles and design practices.
- Travel to project sites as needed to perform inspections, collect field data, and verify existing conditions.
- Return to the office to perform engineering design work and develop electrical design work packages using collected field data.
- Interact daily with supervisors and functional peer groups to exchange and present factual information related to ongoing assignments.
- Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data, working on problems of limited scope under close supervision.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to apply basic scientific and engineering principles in an entry-level engineering technician role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and perform field work as required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to follow standard practices and procedures when analyzing data and situations.
- Comfort working under close supervision while learning job skills and company policies.
- Attention to detail when collecting, recording, and organizing technical and field data.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, CAD, or GIS-related field is preferred.
- Experience in power or utilities environments is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience with field data collection is preferred.
- Familiarity with engineering documentation such as drawings, schematics, and diagrams is beneficial.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, and other project stakeholders.
- Interest in gaining experience in electrical design work packages and construction support.
This role combines both office and field responsibilities. You will split your time between an office setting, where you will perform engineering design work, prepare documentation, and analyze data, and outdoor environments, where you will travel to project sites to perform inspections and collect field data.
