Jacobs is seeking an experienced Construction Site Manager to provide on-site leadership for the mechanical and process trades that support construction of large-scale thermal power generation facilities. This role is central to ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of major mechanical and process systems. Working under the direction of the Construction Project Director, this position coordinates multiple subcontractor teams, resolves field challenges, and drives predictable performance across all mechanical and process scopes of work.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical knowledge of power plant mechanical systems and a proven ability to manage complex, multi-trade field execution in a fast-paced construction environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily field execution for all mechanical and process trades, including heavy rigging, millwright work, pressure piping installation, boiler/HRSG erection, rotating equipment installation, and mechanical balance-of-plant systems.
- Oversee installation of major equipment such as gas turbines, steam turbines, reciprocating engines, generators, HRSG modules, pumps, compressors, fans, heat exchangers, condensers, and cooling tower mechanicals.
- Manage subcontractors performing ASME code piping, steam piping, condensate and feedwater systems, fuel gas piping, cooling water systems, instrument air, service water, fire protection, and chemical feed systems.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and industry codes, including ASME Section I, Section VIII, B31.1, API standards, and applicable power industry requirements.
- Conduct field inspections to verify weld quality, pressure testing, equipment alignment, grouting, torqueing, and mechanical completion documentation.
- Coordinate closely with engineering teams to resolve RFIs, field design issues, constructability concerns, and technical challenges.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols, including heavy lift planning, confined space entry, hot work permitting, and mechanical system isolation.
- Track progress, identify constraints, support schedule updates, and provide accurate reporting on productivity, manpower, and field risks.
- Support commissioning and startup activities, including system flushing, cleaning, equipment testing, mechanical turnover packages, and readiness for energization or steam blows.
- Build strong working relationships with subcontractors, inspectors, suppliers, and client representatives to ensure smooth field execution.
Location – Greenville, South Carolina preferred. However will consider any Jacobs office location NATIONWIDE
Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience in industrial or power plant mechanical construction.
- 7+ years of experience overseeing mechanical, piping, or process system construction on thermal power generation or heavy industrial projects.
- Strong working knowledge of thermal power plant mechanical systems, including rotating equipment, pressure piping, HRSG/boiler components, cooling water systems, fuel gas systems, and emissions control systems.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, equipment specifications, and installation tolerances.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple mechanical subcontractors and coordinating multi-trade field activities.
- Strong understanding of mechanical safety practices, QA/QC processes, and applicable codes and standards.
