We have an excellent opportunity for a Principal Chemical Engineer for our Residential Fire Business Unit. The successful candidate must possess strong technology and product development competencies to support the technical delivery of residential fire suppression and life safety products. While reporting to the Associate Director, Engineering, this person will lead two key areas – (1) fire suppression chemistry technology development and industrialization and (2) global chemical compliance for fire suppression and other detection and alarming electronic products.
Key Responsibilities- Understand and own the technical portfolio of fire suppressing agents used for global fire suppression including but not limited to dry and wet-chemical solutions. Lead and support initiatives for alternate chemical sourcing qualification including margin improvement. Lead efforts to develop new fire suppression agent technologies.
- Mature and continuously improve standard work for all fire suppression chemicals and their integration into final products.
- Maintain proactive technical support for the various manufacturing sites for fire suppression agents and fire extinguishers.
- Manage and lead global chemical compliance initiatives for the Residential Fire Business including but not limited to PFAS, ROHS, REACH, PROP 65, etc. Provide direction to the product management and engineering teams for compliance, labeling, and documentation.
- Up to 25% including but not limited to USA, Mexico, Europe, and China.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Technical / Engineering discipline
- 10+ years’ experience in technology and product development integrating chemical or materials solutions.
- Due to contractual agreements, must be a US citizen, green card holder, or permanent resident
- Master’s or PhD in Chemical Engineering
- A thorough knowledge of combustion chemistry is a major plus for candidates applying for this position.
- Demonstrated experience supporting a project from concept to industrialization.
- Experience operating analytical instruments such as TGA/DSC, SEM/EDS, FTIR, Titration, & GG-MS.
- Ability to partner with multi-disciplinary design teams located in various geographies and to interact directly with suppliers and customers.
- Fluency in English required with additional secondary languages preferred:
Spanish, Polish, and/or French.
