About the RoleAmerican Engineering is seeking an experienced and motivated Hydraulics Engineer to join our growing Charlotte team. This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer with a strong background in hydraulic modeling, stormwater management, drainage design, and transportation-related hydraulics. The successful candidate will lead complex projects, provide technical guidance, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative infrastructure solutions throughout the Southeast.
Responsibilities- Lead the planning, analysis, and design of hydraulic and hydrologic systems for transportation, municipal, and land development projects.
- Perform drainage studies, stormwater management analyses, floodplain evaluations, and hydraulic modeling.
- Develop and review construction plans, specifications, technical reports, and engineering calculations.
- Utilize industry-standard software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-8, ICPR, Pond Pack, StormCAD, and related modeling tools.
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and internal design teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on project delivery.
- Support project pursuits, client development activities, and proposal preparation.
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with applicable regulations and design standards.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina or ability to obtain NC licensure through reciprocity.
- 8+ years of experience in hydraulic and hydrologic engineering.
- Demonstrated experience using HEC-RAS and other hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software such as HEC-HMS, HY-8, ICPR, StormCAD, Pond Pack, GeoHECRAS, or similar tools.
- Experience performing floodplain analyses, bridge and culvert hydraulics, stormwater management studies, and drainage design.
- Strong understanding of NCDOT, FEMA, and local drainage and stormwater regulations.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and project management skills.
