Commissioning Engineer RoleThe ACx Commissioning Engineer (CxE) oversees multi-discipline coordination for design review and commissioning of Amazon critical infrastructure for new construction and special projects. Responsibilities include supporting vendors, contractors, and teams involved in construction and commissioning of systems such as medium and low voltage power, generators, UPS, HVAC, chilled water, BMS, and EPMS. The CxE provides input into scheduling, test script development, design, and project planning, develops and reviews component and integrated systems testing, ensures compliance with design basis, specifications, industry standards, and safety policies, audits commissioning activities for environmental, quality, and safety compliance, and reports status, lessons learned, and program improvements.
The position covers multiple in‑flight projects with tight schedules.
- Oversee and coordinate multi‑discipline work related to design review and commissioning of critical infrastructure.
- Support vendors, contractors, and teams on medium and low voltage power systems, generators, UPS, HVAC, chilled water, BMS, and EPMS.
- Provide input into scheduling, test script development, design, and planning of projects.
- Develop and review electrical and mechanical component and integrated system tests and other commissioning documents.
- Ensure all commissioning procedures follow safety practices and policies.
- Audit commissioning activities continuously to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.
- Communicate proactively with the ACx Regional Manager and ACx team to ensure test documents are created and executed per requirements.
- Provide comprehensive weekly reporting of status, lessons learned, and program improvements.
- Walk job sites in uneven terrain.
- Work at heights and from ladders.
- Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
- Carry objects weighing up to 49 pounds for short distances.
- Work shifts longer than eight hours with potential night and weekend work.
- Perform physical tasks throughout the day without becoming overly tired.
- Manipulate small wires and objects easily.
- Work in a noisy environment.
- Work in environments colder or hotter than a normal office.
Job Requirements
- Ability to relocate to the Charlotte or Hamlet, NC area.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the year; primary work location will be Hamlet, NC.
- Provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits away from the office; reimbursed.
- 3+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
