A well-established, employee-focused engineering consultancy is seeking a Project Electrical Engineer to join its growing team. This role offers flexibility in working arrangements and can be based out of multiple offices across North Carolina (e.g. Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington).
RoleThe Project Electrical Engineer will play a key role in the delivery of engineering projects within the infrastructure sector. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and project managers to deliver projects on time and within budget, while also engaging directly with clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Lead electrical design and delivery across multiple projects from concept through to completion
- Develop electrical design packages including plans, specifications, and calculations
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers
- Carry out QA/QC reviews and coordinate with other engineering disciplines
- Support construction activities, including RFIs, submittals, and design clarifications
- Prepare technical reports, permitting documentation, and detailed specifications
- Engage directly with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies
- Conduct site visits, investigations, and field commissioning/start-up activities
- Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness
- Manage and prioritise multiple project deliverables simultaneously
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)
- ~3-10 years of relevant engineering experience
- Strong experience with medium and low voltage power distribution systems
- Experience designing electrical systems including MCCs, generators, and switch gear
- Ability to produce:
- Single line diagrams
- Motor control schematics
- Instrumentation loop diagrams
- Experience working in classified/hazardous areas and specifying compliant equipment
- Familiarity with generator sizing tools (e.g. Spec Sizer, Power Suite) and backup power systems
- Working knowledge of Arc Flash analysis tools (e.g. ETAP, SKM)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical or Revit
- Strong knowledge of NEC and relevant industry codes/standards
- Experience with field investigations and system start-up/commissioning
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
