Job Summary
The successful candidate will provide technical and regulatory support to generating plants in the Carolinas service area (North and South Carolina), focusing on groundwater and landfill/waste management.
Responsibilities- Provide regulatory compliance support for generating facilities.
- Offer technical expertise in groundwater and landfill management.
- Perform or oversee landfill permitting, day‑to‑day compliance support, siting support, compliance reporting, and closure plan development.
- Conduct hydrogeologic investigation, data evaluation, monitoring well siting, modeling, and remediation for groundwater projects.
- Prepare and review environmental reports and calculations related to groundwater compliance and industrial waste landfills.
- Serve as subject matter expert for basic technical program and compliance issues, supporting the company’s environmental goals and compliance programs.
- Develop and maintain procedures and programs to help facilities comply with environmental laws and regulations.
- Track regulatory changes, legislative activities, and industry standards; assist with required changes to facility compliance programs.
- Work with federal, state, and local regulatory authorities to interpret regulations and laws.
- Support Duke Energy on internal and external industry committees and teams.
- Provide regulatory‑required and internal environmental reports.
- Develop assigned environmental training programs.
- Prepare, submit, and negotiate permits and permit renewals with public authorities.
- Communicate permit requirements to facilities.
- Collaborate with EHS Professionals and facility personnel to update facility plans and documents, minimizing impacts to operations.
- Support work unit goals and enhance the company’s reputation through effective planning, organization, communication, and scheduling of environmental work activities.
- Assist in routine and special department projects to meet business objectives.
- Continuously develop and improve job‑related technical knowledge and skills.
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Eligibility for an EIT certification.
- Coursework and/or experience in hydrogeology/geology, regulatory compliance, groundwater investigation and remediation, landfill permitting and operations, and fluid mechanics.
- Advanced degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, or related).
- Master’s degree in Engineering considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science.
- Experience with Duke Energy Intern/Co‑op programs.
Office environment with extensive computer use; occasional work in a power plant or field environment with exposure to all types of weather. Requires the ability to travel 5–15% and occasional overtime work. Hybrid work available after onboarding; employees must reside within a reasonable commute to the designated facility and possess reliable transportation.
