Job Summary and DescriptionLeads research efforts in particular scientific disciplines or technologies and participates in the development and execution of research applications, products, and services in those areas. Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Organizes the external and interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the project/product on schedule and within budget. May conduct research directly in complex, high impact technical or scientific fields.
Key Responsibilities- Lead research efforts and develop and execute research applications, products, and services.
- Apply plant operations and maintenance technical knowledge to identify technical issues and gain input on needs from stakeholders.
- Develop research or service opportunities for EPRI members that align with the organization’s mission and capabilities.
- Provide project oversight, ensuring technical and financial milestones are met and projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Manage small to medium projects, including budgets and resource allocation.
- Communicate strategies and results in written reports and verbal briefings to program members, potential members, and external stakeholders.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, and assist the EPRI sales staff in member services.
- Interface with national and international technical networks, manufacturers, consultants, academia, and research organizations.
- Lead proposal efforts and new promotional work, supporting member/client needs.
- Serve as a technical specialist for projects or project tasks, and influence technical aspects of project work.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required.
- Experience: 7 years of experience in power plant operations and maintenance leadership.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proven ability to apply technical expertise innovatively to accomplish highly specialized technical objectives.
- Strong judgement, diligence, and attention to detail for responsible technical assignments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage projects and work in conjunction with technical specialists.
- Developing technical depth in 1‑2 areas.
- Knowledge of power plant operations, maintenance, and engineering.
- Knowledge of human and organizational performance, corrective action programs, Lock‑out Tag‑out (LOTO), procedure writing, emergency action planning, and seasonal readiness.
- Ability to manage projects involving oversight of contract researchers and internal research activities.
- Ability to conduct plant assessments related to O&M processes to identify best practices and opportunities for improvement through application of research.
Salary range: $170,000 USD to $180,000 USD annually. The role is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program and standard employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), STD/LTD, paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
