- Use creativity, judgment, and flexibility to reduce defects by eliminating root causes.
- Work with suppliers to improve performance and ensure the measurement/inspection system meets customer needs.
- Improve processes and solve problems based on fundamental understanding using DMAIC and advanced statistical tools.
- Improve manufacturing cost, quality, uptime, yields, cycle time, and safety by evaluating new raw materials, equipment, or process parameters.
- Document SOPs, SOS, experiment planning, and process changes; support any Corning division or R&D projects.
- Support the design and development of new processes or improvement to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide.
- Lead and support problem‑solving and process improvements using structured problem‑solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma.
- Champion the implementation of Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations and analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g., Pareto, regression, time charting, ANOVA, gauge R&R).
- Measure and communicate performance against established objectives; review and interpret data to recommend immediate actions, long‑term corrective actions, and follow‑up experiments; document processes and mentor operators and peers.
Travel is primarily within the NC region, with potential visits to other domestic production facilities. Travel may be up to 75% of the time, depending on project stage and status.
Required Education and Skills- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemical, materials, ceramic, or mechanical engineering (master’s preferred).
- 3‑5 years of engineering or manufacturing experience with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding.
- Apply engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects.
- Use creative and innovative problem‑solving approaches, methods, and execution.
- Complete projects in a manufacturing organization.
- Excellent analytical skills for data‑driven decision making.
- Collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.
- Knowledge of Corning’s businesses.
- Prior experience in a plant or division engineering group.
- Strong internal Corning network.
- Performance Excellence training—ideally a green belt or higher certification in Lean Manufacturing.
- Project management skills.
- Some mechanical aptitude and equipment understanding.

Salary Range$84,932.00 – $ for full time status. Starting pay depends on job‑related factors, including geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
