Test Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Building Services Engineer
Seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Agent to join a leading engineering consultancy, its growing commissioning team in Charlotte, NC.
This role is ideal for a commissioning professional with experience delivering complex mechanical systems across mission‑critical facilities, healthcare, commercial buildings, industrial plants, power generation, or data centers.
You will work closely with design engineers, contractors, equipment vendors, and clients to test, validate, optimise, and bring building systems into full operation.
This position offers the opportunity to lead commissioning activities on technically challenging projects while mentoring junior engineers and working within a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and manage commissioning plans in accordance with ASHRAE Guideline 0.
- Lead functional testing of complex mechanical systems, including multi‑stack equipment and redundant system configurations.
- Review design drawings, specifications, equipment submittals, and commissioning documentation.
- Identify issues during commissioning and work collaboratively with project teams to resolve them.
- Lead commissioning activities involving multiple disciplines and client stakeholders.
- Prepare operating procedures, commissioning reports, and technical documentation.
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior commissioning engineers.
- Support project delivery from planning through final system validation and turnover.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- 6+ years of hands‑on commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and validation experience with large mechanical systems.
- Approximately 3.5‑7+ years of experience within the MEP or commissioning industry.
- Experience commissioning large‑scale commercial, industrial, healthcare, data centre, operations centre, high‑rise, or mission‑critical facilities.
- Strong understanding of mechanical building systems, applicable building codes, and system selection.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and lead commissioning efforts across multiple trades.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence.
- Commissioning certifications such as BCxA, ASHRAE, PECI, or similar.
- Experience with LEED principles and sustainable building practices.
