Job Description
Experience in the design and operation of PWR and/or BWR plants, including primary and secondary systems. Past experience with feasibility studies, equipment reliability issues, system modifications and upgrades to improve safety and reliability is desired. Demonstrated independent judgment in performing calculations, modifications and designs, and ability to present and justify modification packages to quality and safety reviews. Superior technical knowledge of mechanical disciplines and ability to work on project teams with other engineers to evaluate conditions and develop design changes that improve plant performance, safety and reliability.
Ability to interface and work with equipment vendors as needed.
Familiarity with codes and standards applicable to the nuclear power industry, as well as working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations (including the NRC). Superior client skills and understanding of the roles of other disciplines, and ability to coordinate and interface with other disciplines are musts.
Qualifications Education RequiredBS degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program.
Experience Required15 years of relevant engineering experience (10 years with a Professional Engineer license), including a minimum of 5 years of commercial nuclear power industry experience. Familiarity with PWR and/or BWR plant systems is a plus. Experience with performing calculations, feasibility studies, engineering evaluations, system modifications and/or upgrades to nuclear power plant systems to improve safety and reliability. Experience in reviewing and checking designs, drawings, and data prepared by other engineers.
OtherRequired Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and presentation skills; presentation to client review boards of design documents required.
- Proficiency in Mathcad and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
- Effective time management skills and ability to work on several projects concurrently.
- Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted commercial nuclear power plant access.
- Overtime work required. Travel to client sites required, with periods of on-site field/office work.
- Ability to perform walk‑downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, including climbing ladders, accessing security‑controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and hazardous areas.
MS in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited university is desirable.
Preferred Certification(s) or License(s)Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) registration is desirable.
