An established engineering consulting organization is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Department Manager to oversee a growing geotechnical engineering team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This leadership role combines technical oversight, operational management, staff development, financial accountability, and business development. The successful candidate will guide project execution while helping expand client relationships and supporting continued departmental growth.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the full lifecycle of geotechnical engineering projects.
- Lead a team of geotechnical engineers, geologists, project managers, and technicians.
- Ensure projects adhere to geotechnical engineering best practices, safety standards, and quality control procedures.
- Perform technical review of proposals, reports, and calculations.
- Track department budget, revenue, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Set goals for the geotechnical group and develop staff skills through training initiatives.
- Assist senior staff with business development efforts through community involvement and client engagement.
- Promote company values, positive culture, and high employee engagement.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil or geotechnical engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in geotechnical engineering principles and applications.
- Experience managing departmental budgets, forecasting, and profit and loss responsibilities.
- Proven success developing client relationships and supporting business growth.
- Solid understanding of geotechnical site conditions and construction practices.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical emphasis.
- Candidates without current licensure must be eligible to obtain the required license within three months of hire.
