Senior Mechanical Engineer, Automation
Corning Incorporated is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Automation to support advanced manufacturing automation projects across the Charlotte/Hickory, NC region. This is an onsite-based role with travel up to 50%, primarily across North Carolina to support project sites and business needs, with occasional domestic and international travel. Work arrangements offer some flexibility based on project demands and team needs.

You will help develop precision automation systems that improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability across a range of Corning manufacturing applications.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and design mechanical components and systems for precision automation equipment in compliance with safety and industry standards
- Utilize CAD tools such as Solid Works, AutoCAD, or Inventor to create detailed designs and documentation
- Apply precision motion control and assembly methods to support high-accuracy automation solutions
- Integrate robotics, actuators, sensors, and control systems into automation equipment in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Conduct data analysis, modeling, simulation, troubleshooting, and performance optimization to validate designs and improve system reliability
- Prepare and maintain project documentation, including design specifications, technical reports, and validation protocols
- Stay current with advancements in automation technology and precision engineering to support innovation and continuous improvement
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering
- 2+ years of industry experience in automation, equipment design, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing engineering
- Experience with CAD, analysis, and technical software such as Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, MATLAB, Python, or R
- Experience designing and specifying mechanical components and automation solutions, including familiarity with precision motion control systems such as stepper motors, servo motors, and linear actuators
- Ability to integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components into cohesive systems, with strong attention to detail, analytical problem-solving, and clear communication skills
- Experience with robotics, actuators, sensors, PLCs, or HMI systems
- Familiarity with FEA, CFD, Simulink, or related simulation and control system tools
- Programming knowledge in Python, C++, MATLAB, or PLC programming languages
- Experience with system-level troubleshooting, performance optimization, and design validation in precision applications
- Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $83,134.00 - $ assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
