WSP is searching for a Lead Consultant, Civil Engineer for its Charlotte, North Carolina office. The role is part of the Civil Design service line that supports WSP’s power, industrial, and municipal clientele across the southeast.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and direct small to medium project design teams.
  • Prepare scope of work and costing documents for proposals.
  • Coordinate with senior engineering staff, lead junior team members, and project stakeholders to manage an organized approach to project execution.
  • Perform professional civil engineering work including design of erosion and sediment control measures, SPCC plans, site grading using AutoCAD Civil3D, hydraulic systems (closed and open conduits), hydrologic analyses, and stormwater management facilities.
  • Prepare permit applications and respond to agency (owner) comments in design.
  • Prepare construction drawings and specifications to implement designs.
  • Prepare client‑ready reports and drawings.
  • Evaluate design options and assess cost/benefit of solutions.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration in North Carolina, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • 7–10 years of professional engineering experience (not including school).
  • Valid state driver’s license and successful completion of WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and business meetings as required.
  • Project management experience and team leadership skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and civil design software tools.
  • Proficient with technical computations and calculations, understanding of engineering principles, plans and specifications, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior‑level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and prioritization in a high‑pressure work environment.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company‑wide staff.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Strong ability to adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility in schedules and hours to meet business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
