As a Deputy Design Manager, you'll support the delivery of complex transportation projects across the East Region, helping clients achieve successful outcomes through design-build and other alternative delivery methods. You'll work alongside experienced project leaders and technical experts while building your leadership skills on some of the industry's most impactful transportation programs.
In this role, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders to help deliver high-quality transportation solutions from pursuit through project completion. This is an excellent opportunity for a transportation professional looking to take the next step toward a Design Manager role while gaining exposure to large-scale infrastructure projects, business development, project delivery, and team leadership.
What you'll do
- Support the development of client relationships and assist with pursuits, qualifications packages, interviews, and business development activities
- Partner with project leadership and serve as a client contact on assigned projects to help ensure project objectives and client expectations are met
- Support the delivery of large transportation projects utilizing design-build and other alternative delivery methods, including CM/GC and progressive design-build
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, consultants, subcontractors, and project stakeholders throughout project development and delivery
- Assist in leading the development of designs, technical documentation, and project deliverables
- Help manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and delivery milestones
- Support proposal development, project planning, fee estimates, and resource coordination
- Provide construction-phase support services, including responses to RFIs, submittal reviews, shop drawing reviews, construction modifications, and site visits, when applicable
- Contribute to project quality efforts and support compliance with Jacobs' quality standards and project requirements
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative team environment and support the growth and development of early career professionals
- Assist with recruiting, team-building initiatives, and the continued growth of Jacobs' transportation practice across the East Region
Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience delivering transportation infrastructure projects including project or program management experience
- Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating with clients, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders
- Experience working on projects for state or local transportation agencies
- Familiarity with transportation project delivery, including design-build, construction support, or alternative delivery methods
- Knowledge of applicable transportation design standards and industry practices
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing
- Ability and willingness to support transportation projects and pursuits across the East Region
Ideally, you'll also have
- Experience supporting design-build transportation projects
- DBIA certification or interest in pursuing certification
- Established relationships within the transportation industry
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting the development of team members
