Maintenance Principal Engineer
As a Maintenance Principal Engineer, you will serve as a collaborative, multidisciplinary technical leader within the Mechanical Integrity and Maintenance Excellence team. You will work with manufacturing sites across the global network to strengthen mechanical integrity, maintenance work processes, asset reliability, and lifecycle performance.
In this high-visibility role, you will provide enterprise guidance for fixed and rotating equipment, inspection and testing programs, risk-based decision making, maintenance strategies, and continuous improvement. You will partner with site engineering, maintenance, operations, process safety, and business teams to translate standards and technical requirements into practical, sustainable execution.
You will report directly to our Director of Engineering and you'll work out of our Houston, TX, Charlotte, NC, Chicago, IL, Mobile, AL, or Shreveport, LA location on a Hybrid work schedule.

YOUR IMPACT
- Improve the safety, integrity, availability, and lifecycle cost of critical process equipment.
- Strengthen consistent Mechanical Integrity governance, inspection practices, and maintenance execution across manufacturing sites.
- Reduce equipment risk and recurring failures through sound engineering, disciplined problem solving, and sustainable corrective actions.
- Build capability by mentoring engineers, inspectors, planners, and maintenance professionals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical leadership for Mechanical Integrity and Maintenance Excellence programs supporting pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, process piping, heaters, boilers, relief systems, rotating equipment, and other critical assets.
- Develop, maintain, and deploy engineering standards, procedures, workflows, and governance for inspection, testing, preventive maintenance, equipment reliability, and asset lifecycle management.
- Guide risk-based inspection, corrosion and damage mechanism reviews, integrity operating windows, fitness-for-service evaluations, equipment repair plans, and inspection interval decisions.
- Support Process Safety Management and mechanical integrity compliance by helping sites identify critical equipment, manage deficiencies, maintain qualified procedures, and document inspection, test, and maintenance activities.
- Lead or support equipment failure investigations, root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, bad actor elimination, and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
- Advance maintenance excellence practices, including work management, preventive and predictive maintenance, precision maintenance, turnaround support, contractor management, records management, and compliance.
- Partner with site teams to assess program maturity, identify risks and performance gaps, prioritize improvements, and track measurable results.
- Provide subject matter expertise for applicable codes, standards, and recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices, including API, ASME, NBIC, and related requirements.
- Support digital systems and analytics used for maintenance and asset performance, including SAP Plant Maintenance, Meridium/APM, inspection data, compliance dashboards, and reliability reporting.
- Coach and mentor technical professionals, deliver training, and develop reusable guidance that improves consistency and capability across the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders and site stakeholders to align mechanical integrity, reliability, maintenance, cost, production, and process safety priorities.
YOU MUST HAVE
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
- 10+ years of engineering, maintenance, reliability, inspection, or mechanical integrity experience in chemical, petrochemical, refining, energy, manufacturing, or another process industry.
- Demonstrated experience with fixed equipment and piping mechanical integrity, maintenance engineering, equipment reliability, or inspection programs.
- Working knowledge of relevant engineering codes and standards, such as API 510, API 570, API 653, API 580/581, ASME, NBIC, and associated inspection and repair practices.
- Experience working in a Process Safety Management environment and applying mechanical integrity requirements to operating assets.
- Ability to lead complex technical work, solve ambiguous problems, communicate recommendations clearly, and influence across functions and locations.
- Ability to travel 30% to manufacturing sites as business needs require.
WE VALUE
