Job Description

CJS Conveyance (CJS) has recently opened an office in Charlotte, NC, and we are looking for a highly motivated, licensed Professional Engineer to help us grow our presence, develop our team, and lead water and wastewater conveyance projects throughout the central Carolinas and surrounding areas. Experience in business development, operations management, and engineering consulting within North Carolina and South Carolina will be critical to the success of this role.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience leading projects from kickoff through construction and will be comfortable representing CJS in interactions with clients, regulatory agencies, partnering consultants, contractors, and the public. Typical projects include large-diameter gravity sewers, water transmission mains, urban water and sewer replacements, elevated storage tanks, and pumping stations.

This is a unique opportunity to lead our Charlotte-based water and wastewater services and help shape CJS’s continued growth across North and South Carolina.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as CJS’s lead representative to develop relationships, build our team, and grow our presence in the Charlotte/Central Carolinas region
  • Oversee business operations for our Charlotte area office, including marketing, contract/client management, overseeing staff, and general office management
  • Responsible for recruitment, development, and retention of staff
  • Serve as senior project manager to lead the production of design deliverables
  • Perform preliminary engineering evaluations and prepare technical reports
  • Develop design documents including plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Perform engineering analyses using engineering software and textbook calculations
  • Prepare regulatory permit applications and coordinate with review agencies
  • Prepare opinions of probable construction cost
  • Oversee bid phase services and construction administration
  • Develop innovative solutions based on training and experience
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering required
  • Minimum experience of 10 years in civil engineering with municipal clients
  • North Carolina PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Previous client and project management experience
  • Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills
  • Valid driver’s license
