Project Engineer​/Technical Sales Support

Advanced Equipment Company (AEC) is looking for a technically minded, outgoing person to join our team in Charlotte, NC.

AEC designs and integrates conveyor and material handling systems for manufacturers and distribution operations. We are a small company, which means this is not a narrowly defined engineering position. You will get exposure to the entire process, from helping develop a solution and creating layouts and proposals to coordinating projects and working onsite during installation.

We are open to someone early in their career, including a recent graduate, as well as someone with industry experience. An engineering degree is not required. What matters most is strong technical aptitude, the ability to learn, good communication skills and being comfortable working directly with customers.

• Support our sales team with proposals, equipment selection, pricing and technical information.
• Create high level AutoCAD layouts and system drawings. We can teach AutoCAD if you have the technical aptitude.
• Visit customer facilities to understand applications, gather information and help develop solutions.
• Coordinate projects after the order, including schedules, equipment deliveries, installation activities and communication with customers, vendors and subcontractors.
• Travel to project sites and help oversee equipment installation.
• Troubleshoot problems in the field and help determine solutions when things do not go exactly according to plan.
• Research replacement components, develop spare parts lists and assist customers with smaller equipment and aftermarket needs.
• Work with several experienced salespeople and learn different customers, industries, products and applications.

• Strong technical, mechanical or electrical aptitude.
• Engineering, engineering technology, mechatronics or other technical education or experience is helpful, but not required.
• Outgoing and comfortable talking with customers, contractors and vendors.
• Able to build rapport and earn people's trust.
• Organized and capable of keeping multiple projects and priorities moving.
• Curious, resourceful and willing to figure things out.
• Self motivated and comfortable taking initiative.
• Willing to work in an environment where projects are similar, but rarely exactly the same.
• Comfortable working both in an office and in manufacturing and construction environments.

Travel is approximately 35% and varies significantly depending upon project activity. Some periods may involve little travel, while an active installation could require being onsite for a week or more. Overnight travel is required.

This position provides exposure to nearly every part of AEC's business and is designed to grow as your knowledge and experience increase. Future opportunities could include managing larger projects, increased technical or customer responsibility, or potentially moving into outside sales.

You do not need to know the material handling industry when you arrive. We have experienced people who can teach the products and applications. We are looking for someone with the technical ability, personality and drive to learn them.

• Salary range of $60,000 to $85,000, based on experience and qualifications.
