Insight Global is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to support large power generation projects. This individual will initially work in a controls engineering capacity focused on Emerson Ovation DCS programming, logic development, graphics development, software testing, and system validation. After the engineering phase, the role will transition into a field-based startup and commissioning position supporting new power plant construction and generation projects.
The ideal candidate is a controls engineer with hands-on DCS experience who can contribute immediately to programming and testing activities while also supporting startup and commissioning efforts in the field.
- Develop and modify DCS control logic and operator graphics.
- Support software Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and simulator testing activities.
- Perform DCS system checkout, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Review control narratives, logic diagrams, graphics, and test procedures.
- Support commissioning, startup, and turnover activities.
- Coordinate with engineering teams, vendors, contractors, and operations personnel.
- Participate in loop checks, functional testing, interlock testing, and system verification.
- Troubleshoot controls hardware, software, instrumentation, and communication networks.
- Support startup milestones including plant commissioning and operational turnover.
- Manage controls-related changes and documentation throughout project execution.
- 8+ years of Controls Engineering or DCS experience.
- Experience supporting startup, commissioning, or testing activities in power generation, industrial, or process plant environments.
- Emerson Ovation experience OR strong experience with another major controls platform (Siemens, GE, ABB, Honeywell, etc.).
- Experience supporting startup, commissioning, FAT testing, simulator testing, or system checkout activities.
- Combined Cycle power plant experience
- Gas turbine startup/commissioning experience
- PLC experience
- Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) background
- Utility industry experience
- NERC CIP or industrial cybersecurity knowledge
- Hybrid schedule during the initial Charlotte-based engineering phase.
- Initial engineering/programming assignment expected to last approximately 6-12 months.
- Transition into full-time onsite startup and commissioning support.
- Potential projects located throughout North Carolina and other generation sites.
- Per diem available during qualifying field assignments.
- Typical work week is 40-50 hours, with additional hours possible during critical startup and commissioning periods.
