Cost AccountantPrestige Land & Site Works, LLC
General DescriptionThe Cost Accountant is a critical member of the Finance team responsible for recording, reporting, and analyzing revenue and costs related to both land development and site work projects. This position maintains cost accounting systems, prepares project billings, analyzes cost performance, and supports budgeting and forecasting. The Cost Accountant plays a key role in financial accuracy, project cost control, and delivering actionable insights to project managers and leadership.
KeyDuties Cost Accounting & Project Billing
- Develop and maintain project-based cost accounting systems and documentation.
- Coordinate with project managers to prepare accurate monthly progress billings.
- Work with contract administrators to record revenue and cost of sales for lot sales.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of project-related financial transactions.
- Prepare month-end journal entries for accrued/deferred revenue, cost allocations, and capitalization of eligible costs.
- Maintain and reconcile CIP (Construction-in-Progress) and Investment accounts.
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports and dashboards for management.
- Analyze cost variances and provide explanations and recommendations for discrepancies.
- Support the annual budgeting process and monthly forecasting cycles.
- Collaborate with operations and finance teams to ensure alignment between actual and projected costs.
- Provide cost insights and recommendations to help improve project profitability.
- Assist with internal audits and ensure compliance with financial controls and regulations.
- Maintain documentation to support audit readiness and adherence to accounting standards.
- Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
- Work closely with project managers, contract administrators, and the accounting team.
- Serve as a financial resource for operational teams to improve understanding of cost structures and financial performance.
- Communicate findings and updates clearly to both technical and non-financial audiences.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA, CMA, or other relevant certification preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience in cost accounting or financial analysis, preferably in a construction or land development environment.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, revenue recognition, and cost accounting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience with Sage Intacct (or similar ERP/accounting systems).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail, organizational ability, and communication skills.
- Frequent use of computers, spreadsheets, and accounting software.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and manage multiple data-intensive tasks.
- Primarily office-based with regular interaction across finance and project teams.
