Position Overview
Responsible for managing a designated Commercial loan portfolio, including portfolio management, credit underwriting, and ensuring compliance with bank and regulatory guidelines. Responsible for the quality of underwriting and ongoing portfolio management metrics for portfolio under purview. Assists Commercial Relationship Managers in the management of client relationships while maintaining a high degree of creditability. Act as a mentor to junior team members.
The incumbent typically works on loans/portfolios of significant complexity as the incumbent’s work requires little oversight.
- Underwrite, monitor, and analyze assigned Commercial portfolio.
- Identify and manage risks in a timely manner, ensuring high accuracy and quality underwriting.
- Ensure portfolio management practices align with the bank's risk appetite and regulatory standards.
- Serve as leader on complex transactions including syndications, multi-level capital structures, and/or Middle Market relationships.
- Communicate risk assessments clearly and concisely to committees and stakeholders.
- Maintain portfolio within acceptable tolerances and published KPIs/KRIs.
- Optimize customer relationships, working directly with Relationship Managers.
- Ensure satisfactory reviews by regulators, internal auditors, external auditors, and loan review for depth of underwriting.
- Identify policy exceptions and conduct appropriate underwriting stress analysis.
- Participate in group-wide initiatives for process, role and responsibility enhancements, and output improvements.
- Mentor junior Underwriting Portfolio Managers.
- Present proposed credit actions in written analysis documents and verbally to committees and meetings.
- Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
- BA or BS degree.
- Minimum 5 years of job‑related experience.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word (Basic), MS Excel (Intermediate), and MS PowerPoint (Basic).
- Knowledge of commercial lending (C&I & Cap markets), underwriting practices, and banking practices.
- Knowledge of commercial banking policies, procedures, and government regulations.
- None required.
Beyond traditional office work. Travel may be required on occasion.
