Credit Analyst, Risk Manager/Analyst, Financial Analyst, Underwriter
Job Summary
Responsible for the financial analysis, risk assessment and credit structure recommendation for Commercial Real Estate (CRE) clients and prospects. This includes prudent underwriting and effective credit and risk administration with particular emphasis on adherence to credit policy and requirements, financial analysis/modeling, risk evaluation, on‑going portfolio maintenance activities, and client support. Collaborates with Relationship Manager to identify credit worthy projects within targeted markets and assists in the prioritization of relationship calling strategies.
Supplements analysis with research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources to develop an assessment of client, competitor, property segment, market and industry risks and trends.
- Lead the diligence and underwriting documentation of the most complex and larger credit relationships; prepare credit presentations and lead discussions with Credit Officer and other final approvers, coordinating legal documentation efforts through closing and funding phase.
- Ensure loan agreement is in accordance with approval documents; identify potential issues in loan documentation and take steps to address the issues, in consultation with RM.
- Analyze financial statements/projections and client performance documents, along with identified risk and risk mitigants of most complex credits.
- Provide oversight of credit relationship/project performance and monitoring activity to include overall portfolio management and understanding of current industry and market trends. Accountable for, and manage, assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends.
- Ensure all Credit Process Metrics are within prescribed tolerances. Accountable for the risk evaluation and associated compliance requirements within assigned portfolio and for prospects. Identify issues and follow through for remediation.
- Manage pipeline of assigned portfolio to ensure that all requests are completed in a timely fashion and that client needs are met.
- Serve as a client and internal point of contact in managing assigned portfolio, including site visits and visits with client management team.
- Serve as a source of real estate underwriting knowledge and expertise, understanding current industry and/or market trends.
- Mentor and coach Analysts and Associates.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or Business, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Possess appropriate Investment Banking licensure including Series 79 (Investment Banking Representative) and Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State License).
- 5+ years of experience in underwriting, portfolio administration or commercial loan credit decision‑making.
- Experience in underwriting, structuring and closing direct and syndicated loan transactions (e.g., $25MM to $250MM+).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Knowledge of credit principles.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities under time constraints.
- Demonstrated success working in a collaborative team environment.
- Graduate of Truist or legacy Development Program.
- MBA in Accounting or Finance or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience or another related advanced degree.
