GENERAL FUNCTIONPursuant to the Bancorp Risk Framework, this role executes credit risk management strategies and policies, exercising independent judgement and providing constructive and credible challenge to credit risk recommendations. Responsibilities include credit risk portfolio management and monitoring, approving credit exposure, and providing feedback on proper structuring and pricing. The individual monitors ongoing credit administration, attends line of business (LOB) pipeline meetings to ensure standards are followed, participates in customer calls as needed, and monitors credit quality through forward‑looking analysis and system‑generated reports.
The role is accountable for following policies and procedures, acting in the best interests of customers and colleagues, and consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks in line with the bank’s risk appetite.
- Approve or reject the most complex loans within delegated authority and approved risk limits.
- Ensure policies, including enterprise level policies, reflect the bank’s credit risk appetite and are reviewed timely.
- Advise credit and loan personnel on overall policy, noting forward‑looking trends and recommending changes if necessary.
- Provide forward‑looking review for ongoing maintenance of credit exposure.
- Review and challenge credit approval packages for loans within the LOB’s lending policies, limits, appetite, and delegated authorities.
- Collaborate with the LOB to develop and execute action plans when credit exposure breaches limits.
- Provide effective, credible challenge on client selection, risk identification and mitigation, and adherence to risk appetite and underwriting standards.
- Participate in LOB deal screens to provide early constructive feedback.
- Review periodic Bancorp credit quality reports to assess compliance with credit risk appetite and business objectives.
- Attend and provide challenge in meetings such as administrative loan meetings and portfolio review meetings.
- Provide information, analysis, and risk and portfolio recommendations to the Senior Credit Officer.
- Represent Bancorp in high‑level customer interactions and community affairs.
- Adjudicate requests to change regulatory classifications (upgrades or downgrades).
- Oversee and challenge the LOB regarding timeliness of transfers to the Special Assets Group.
- Conduct portfolio reviews to identify concentration risks, industry risks, underwriting exceptions, and emerging risks, determining direction and level of risk and recommending actions.
May supervise others, providing timely, candid and constructive performance feedback; developing employees to their fullest potential; ensuring adequate bench strength and succession planning; recognizing and rewarding accomplishments.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Accounting (Master’s preferred).
- Ten+ years of related credit experience.
- Proficiency in financial and credit analysis including portfolio management.
- Knowledge of banking industry, relevant regulations, commercial banking, capital markets, and treasury management products and associated risks.
- Proficient in basic spreadsheet applications such as Excel and Word.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and understand various computer systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and people/relationship building skills.
Normal office environment with little exposure to dust, noise, temperature variations, and extended desk time. Extended time at desk, viewing computer screens.
